Create Abstract Channel
A Channel is the delivery medium of Bitcaster: email, SMS, push, chat and so on. An Abstract Channel is a reusable template of a channel — the provider and its configuration (e.g. the SMTP server, the Slack token) — defined once at the organization level and later enabled for as many projects as needed. This way the provider settings live in a single place and projects just pick the channel they want to use.
Note
This is an optional step you can create standard project channels later. @see Channel for further infos.
From the Organization page ⧉ click on Create Channel
The first step provides the generic channel fields:
Name: name of the channel.Dispatcher: the protocol engine used to send messages (e.g. the Email dispatcher).-
Active: enable/disable the channel. -
Provide a name for your channel and choose one of the available dispatchers.
- After you click
Finishyou will be asked to provide Dispatcher specific configuration: the second step shows one field per option required by the chosen dispatcher (e.g. SMTP server and credentials for the Email dispatcher, webhook URL and secret for the Slack dispatcher). Fill the values and save.
The abstract channel is now available for every project of the organization; see Enable Project Channel to bind it to a project.
